After 2 years of amazing events and community, The Nook is winding down. We are saying goodbye to the space we have absolutely loved and seeking a new tenant to move in. We’d like to ask for your help in spreading the word.

Our Experience

The Nook began in January 2025 as an experiment in creating a warm, accessible gathering space. We are seven friends who wanted to create a space that felt less like a formal venue and more like a communal living room. Over the last two years, The Nook has grown into a home for over two hundred gatherings for a wide range of communities.

We have loved our little home at 1242 Market Street. We’ve poured our heart and soul into this space. It’s a magical experience to step-off busy Market Street, up a flight of stairs, and enter the second floor oasis that is The Nook. Somehow The Nook feels cozy and inviting, whether there are five or fifty people inside.

We have had an excellent relationship with our landlord! There are no residential units nearby, so we haven’t had any issues with noise or using the space at all hours of the day (morning or night). We have INCREDIBLE neighbors (housing NGO, artists & designers, and social impact investors) and really love the neighborhood!

Long story short, we’ve had a great time and we think you will too. While the project may be ending, it has nothing to do with our physical location which has been perfect for everything we have needed. <3

Costs

Rent

The new lease will be finalized with the landlord. The estimated rent amount they have communicated to us is $4500-$5000 per month.

Average Current Utilities

• Building Fees: $410 per month
  • This includes elevator maintenance, janitorial common areas, pest control, intercom, base PG&E electric/gas, water, and HVAC.
  • PG&E is $100/month rate (included in this $410 per month) for every floor and additional cost is split evenly by each unit at the end of the year. This past year, our bill for this was for an additional $2736 at the end of the year.
• Trash: ~$250 per month

Estimated Total Monthly Cost (assuming $5000/month in rent): $5,888
